6 Days Kilimanjaro Marangu Route

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania – Welcome to Kilimanjaro

📍 Overnight in Arusha | Altitude: ~900m
🛏️ Meals Included: Dinner

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you’ll be warmly welcomed by a Revelation Adventure Safaris representative and transferred to your lodge in Arusha. After check-in, you’ll meet your mountain guide for a detailed briefing, gear inspection, and final preparation for the climb. The rest of the day is free to relax, adjust to the altitude, and soak in the African atmosphere.

Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

After breakfast, a short drive brings you to Marangu Gate, the starting point of your Kilimanjaro adventure. Once registration is complete, you’ll begin your trek through a lush rainforest filled with colobus monkeys and vibrant birdlife. The trail leads you steadily to Mandara Hut, your first overnight stop, near the scenic Maundi Crater.

Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Leaving the forest behind, you’ll ascend into the moorland and heath zone. Watch as the landscape transforms, with giant lobelias and senecios dotting the trail. Mawenzi Peak will soon come into view. After reaching Horombo Hut, settle in and enjoy panoramic views of Kilimanjaro’s twin peaks.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

📍 Elevation: 3,700m → 4,400m (Mawenzi Ridge) → 3,700m
🛏️ Overnight at Horombo Hut | Meals: B, L, D

This day is reserved for acclimatization, essential for a safe and successful summit. You’ll hike to Mawenzi Ridge (4,400m), where the lunar-like landscape offers incredible photo opportunities. Return to Horombo Hut for a second night, allowing your body to adjust to higher altitude.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

The trek continues across the alpine desert known as the Saddle, a vast, windswept plateau between Mawenzi and Kibo. Arrive at Kibo Hut, nestled at the base of the summit path. After an early dinner, you’ll rest in preparation for the midnight summit push.

Day 6: Summit Day – Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and Descend to Horombo Hut

Your summit attempt begins just after midnight. Trek in silence under a blanket of stars, reaching Gilman’s Point (5,685m) at sunrise. Press on to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point at 5,895 meters. From here, take in the breathtaking views of the glaciers, the crater rim, and the vast African plains below.

Celebrate your achievement briefly, then begin your descent back to Kibo Hut for a short rest. Afterward, continue to Horombo Hut for a well-earned dinner and deep sleep.

Day 7: Descend to Marangu Gate – Return to Arusha

After breakfast, begin your final descent through the rainforest. Upon reaching Marangu Gate, you’ll receive your summit certificate—a testament to your strength and determination. A vehicle will be waiting to take you back to Arusha, where you’ll enjoy a celebratory dinner and overnight rest.

Day 8: Departure Day

Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy a relaxed morning in Arusha before being transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure—or continue your adventure with a safari or Zanzibar extension
