Kilimanjaro Day Hike

Early Morning Departure (around 5:00 AM)

Your day begins with an early pickup from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi by your Revelation Adventure Safaris guide. The drive to Kilimanjaro National Park takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours, depending on your starting point and chosen route.

Once at the gate, your guide will handle the registration and park formalities while you enjoy a quick breakfast and gear up for the hike.

🥾 Option 1: Lemosho Route Day Hike

Recommended for: Active hikers seeking adventure, quiet trails, and epic views

  • Start Point: Londorossi Gate (2,100m)
  • Hiking Duration: Approx. 4–6 hours round-trip
  • End Point: Shira Plateau (up to 3,600m)

Hike through dense tropical rainforest filled with birdsong and the chance to spot colobus monkeys, turacos, and—if you’re lucky—elephants crashing through the trees. Your trail opens up to the Shira Plateau, a prehistoric caldera formed 500,000 years ago and now part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

From this high alpine landscape, enjoy lunch with panoramic views of Kibo Peak, Shira Pinnacles, and the surrounding moorlands. This route is quieter and more rugged, offering a true off-the-beaten-path experience for adventurous travelers.

🌿 Option 2: Marangu Route Day Hike

Recommended for: Families, beginner hikers, or those seeking a gentler trail

  • Start Point: Marangu Gate (1,860m)
  • Hiking Duration: Approx. 3–4 hours round-trip
  • End Point: Mandara Hut (2,720m)

Nicknamed the “Coca-Cola Route,” Marangu is Kilimanjaro’s most popular and accessible path. Trek through misty rainforests draped in moss, with great opportunities to spot blue monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and colorful birds. Your turnaround point is Mandara Hut, near the volcanic Maundi Crater, where on a clear day, you may catch your first glimpse of Kilimanjaro’s snowy crown.

It’s a comfortable and scenic trail perfect for nature lovers or families with children.
